Mums

Spotted these in the market today, nobody was buying them because each individual bloom was enclosed in yellow plastic netting which made them look like weird onions on a stalk! However, I knew what was underneath because.........

years ago my Dad used to grow chrysanthemums for showing, each bloom encased in a brown paper bag to ensure an even shape and the night before the show the outer  petals  would be wrapped round a pencil so that  they all curled in.

So when the girl on the stall said I could have the whole lot for a couple of quid, I bit her hand off and rushed home with my booty! Not as big as the ones I remember but it is not the right time of the year after all!
