Jammed

Escaping the city at sunset for a weekend away.

The traffic in Phnom Penh has got much much worse in a very short number of years. My friend reports that when she arrived 5 years ago there were no SUVs on the streets. Now the place is jammed full of them blocking the streets. Other than the necessary role of asserting one's status, four wheel drives are completely unnecessary to pick your kids up from the international school or visit the coffee shop. Unnecessary use and size coupled with shocking driving and the inability to consider other road users result in complete chaos on the streets, which has got visibly worse even in the short amount of time I've been here.
