Day 117- Hue
The remains of the citadel in Hue. It was built in the early 19th century when the emperor moved the capital to Hue in an attempt to unite the north and south of Vietnam, though it was not long until the French invaded and the emperors became mainly symbolic. The wars against the French and the USA more or less ruined the citadel, once there would have been many buildings instead of all this grass, but some buildings have been restored and there is a good exhibition with lots of photos showing life in the imperial court. Enjoyed exploring it.
