A Taste of Culture

O what a glorious morning it was.
The sky was blue, the sun was shining, the birds were singing, the bulbs were making an attempt at flowering, and the missed free pizza slices of yesterday just a distant memory as His Lordship and I made a foray to the west of Edinburgh for a dose of artistic culture in the Modern Art Galleries 1&2.

Strictly speaking, the first attraction was the café in Modern 1, there to provide energy by way of coffee and shortbread, for our meeting with the two Roberts- Robert Colquhoun and Robert MacBryde in Modern 2.
After many years of obscurity, these two Scottish painters, born in 1913 and1914, who always lived and worked together have been rediscovered and their work put in a wonderfully exciting exhibition.

We returned home still in the sunshine and very mild too, via the prestigious Dean cemetery where just by accident we passed John Bellany's grave with its unique headstone.
So many cemeteries in Edinburgh seem to be rather neglected with head stones laid flat, lest they topple over, but this one was well tended and so peaceful.
