Derelict Yet Still Useful
On either side of the pier I've been photographing lately - and stretching along the shoreline of the family property - is broken concrete. No longer viable for whatever use it served before, it has been salvaged and recycled as protection against storms and erosion.
This morning I clambered onto a slab to try for a different view of the pier. The concrete in its various shapes and sizes seems like part of the landscape, yet this morning, looking down to keep from falling, I noticed how beautifully it has adapted to the environment. Oyster shells and barnacles have attached, and a startling green algae caught my eye. I turned my camera's gaze to capture what I saw.
