Diary of an Edinburgher

Headache?

Well, the sore ankle from yesterday did not go away. In fact, today it is even more sore. Archie had a very slow, very short walk this morning.

I popped to the doctor (good service, getting an appointment the same day!) As I hobbled in to his surgery, I suggested that he could guess what I was there for.

'Er... Headache?'

He thought my fibula (or was it the tibia?) at the ankle might be cracked or damaged, as it definitely wasn't a sprained ligament or tendon. So he sent me for an X-ray. As I hobbled out, he said, 'You can't walk the dog...'

When I came back, Archie and I sat out the front in the sun (though I did have my coat on). Archie spends a lot of his time poking about in the hedge. There are always bits of bread in there. I've been cursing the school kids for this, but I've realised it's the wee sparrows dropping them - the hedge is full of them, twittering. Except when Archie is near. He thrusts his head right in in his desperation, and this may be why he's had sore eyes - he'd be lucky if he didn't get prodded by a stray twig now and again. He's not even allowed to be up there! Is that a slightly guilty look?

JR took Archie for a walk and a frolic in the Links in the afternoon. He is doing quite well walking to heel. Mostly. But the main problem - barking at other dogs while on the lead - is best avoided at the moment by crossing the road, hiding behind cars etc. And just as well JR's weekend starts today - she's on dog walking duties for a while.

And I anticipate being waited on hand and foot this evening...
