Despairing....

Today I despaired
Are we really still living in a time where retaliation is seen as the only answer?
Where a valid response to an horrific murder is to commit two more?
I don't know much about religion, but my understanding is that God, through whichever lens you view him, generally advises that we should all try and be kind to each other and that killing is wrong.
I have no real answers
But I am so sad
