The Big Moment

The Big Moment was a combination of a lot of little moments.

My mother's calm through all the preparations. She did most of the planning because I was away at school.

Giving my dad a kiss before he walked me down the aisle.

The enormous wedding party of four bridesmaids, a maid of honor, four groomsmen and a best man.

OilMan, ad libbing his vows, because he couldn't remember the entire phrase. Nerves, or lingering effects of a head injury the previous year….

Being driven from the church to the reception by my Uncle Mac in his black Cadillac

One of my friends, arriving late at the reception, telling me she had been "to a very nice wedding in a church across the street".

How young my brother looked. He was only thirteen at the time.

The reception itself, cake and champagne at my parents' house.

It was a lovely day that went by in a blur….
