Homeward bound

With some impressive thunder and lightning and a meal that can be described (modestly) as generous, we made the most of our last night in Brussels.

Today felt like it would be a loooooong one though, after a patchy nights kip. Now it may have been the generous meal that kept me from slipping into a well needed slumber, but it may also have had something to do with the fact that our room was like an oven furnace especially nasty bit of hell (temperature wise, that is). Tried the AC on the first night, that only seemed to make the room hotter. Hmmm. I had it turned all the way down to 10 degrees, yet after 4 hours the thermostat was reading ~25. It was 12 outside - we had a pharmacy across the street from our hotel and it's green cross sign had a display that flitted between time and temp.*

Being in the eighth floor meant that the windows had a chain and lock thing going on meaning we couldn't throw ourselves out of the furnace if it became too much at any point. Luckily, on the second night L decided to give it a good shove and managed to ease it's position a good deal more than seemed possible in my sleep deprived state the previous night. Odd then that even with the window open, the room did not lose any heat. We continued with noticeable discrepancies between thermostat and pharmacy.

(To get back on track,) come last night, it was quite cool when we returned only for us to be hit by a wall of heat when we entered our room. Long story short, not much sleep was had.

Despite all that, we didn't feel too groggy after getting up, showering and packing, so we headed out for a final wander through the town on the way to the station. L was especially pleased when I managed to navigate a pretty much direct route to the station without having to return through Skid Row (as she affectionately labelled our route upon arrival).

Not much opportunity for a shot as I spent most of the time lugging a couple of bags about, but I did recognise when we were in France by the electricity lines - so there's another country blipped.

Back to the office tomorrow. Rewind, then press Play.

p.s. you can spot the camera if you squint a bit

* while I understand that these may not be the definition of accuracy, it's a world away from the read out in our room.
