Opened in 1901, designed by English architects Simpson and Allen, Kelvingrove is in the Spanish Baroque style and the two towers are based on the towers of Santiago de Compostela. Why? Because they won the design competition. It goes quite well with the Glasgow University Building nearby. At this time CR Mackintosh had also won a competition to design the Art School but his Art Nouveau building looked to the future and not the past.
Standing about the car park here was a little bit warmer today but still freezing!
