Endurance
Another day of flitting about chasing the brilliant, ever-shifting, elusive sun. Started with fantastic clouds gilt-edged with brilliant pinks, then the rays lighting up the violas outside the house, then a pile of dish cloths, clementines.
I took The Principal to the station and wandered along icy, treacherous lanes catching the sweep of fields, treelines and a big flock of pigeons.
Back at the house as I was bringing in my stuff the sun on this carving caught my eye. This was the best shot of many as the sun dimmed and flared and shifted in the sky.
The oak carving (from a fencepost I found in Catford years ago) is loosely based on the motif of the Archaic Greek kouros (youth) of which thousands upon thousands were made, in large measure, to guard graves and tombs. I've written about them here and there are drawings on my website.
This piece also gets draped with the curtain ties which is an indignity but he seems to put up with it pretty well.
Usual other shots on the blog - Gilt-edged clouds, cloths and fields.
