Rainy May Monday
After nearly two weeks of mostly very pleasant spring weather, the rain returned yesterday. It fell at just the right rate to refresh our new front garden, and maybe our hummingbirds too, as Phil's blip yesterday showed. The forecast for the next few days isn't promising -- a cold front and strong winds -- so we're hoping for the best.
Phil couldn't play pickleball in the park today due to the rain, so we traveled together to the YMCA for his pickleball game and my fitness class. I had my little camera with me and decided to take some photos while he drove the three miles between our house and the Y. Here's a view of one of the roads we take to downtown Bellingham, lined with the ubiquitous fast food places that blight countless cities and towns in the United States and many other countries.
Entering downtown Bellingham is a more appealing prospect, and just in case you're not sure where you are, there is a helpful blue sign on the right-hand side to let you know. The Y is the four-story brick building on the left with the blue-gray trim around the top edge. I was grateful for the bright yellow VW in this scene, which brightened it considerably!
As for today's blip -- that's the dining area in the Swan Cafe at the Community Food Co-op. You may notice a handsome blipper amongst the folks there, enjoying a cup of coffee, the New York Times, and the views outside, as well as the artwork by local middle school students on the windows (part of the Children's Artwalk), while waiting for his blipper spouse to finish her exercise class.
This afternoon we'll venture forth again for a trip to another part of town for haircuts and a stop at Trader Joe's for food items we can't buy elsewhere. It wouldn't surprise me if someone suggested stopping by Kulshan Brewing Company, as well; it's in the same neighborhood. How convenient!
