In Remembrance

In the early hours of 14th December 1914 Scarborough
came under attack from the two German battle cruisers
Derfflinger and Von der Tann. 18 local people were killed
and 200 injured. The cowardly surprise shelling then
moved Northwards to Whitby and Hartlepool. Whilst
there was a tragic loss of life, the opportunity was not
lost of presenting the Germans as the babykillers
and Remember Scarborough featured in many of the
Enlist Now posters. The silhouetted seat in the Town
Hall gardens was placed on 14th December 2014 to
commemorate those who are not forgotten.
