Lock gate

This lock forms part of a tiered lock/basin system located in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire. This system lies right at the end of the canal, where it joins the River Severn, and that's the reason it is a tiered system, as the river level is somewhat below the canal level. (I don't know who these strangers were  They appeared just at the press of the shutter button, but yes - it really was that cold. And yet, it was a pleasant kind of cold - the kind that can make a winter day really quite pleasant - until the sun goes down.)
