Day 24: Thaipusam

It's been hard trying to pick a blip from my visit to the colourful Hindu festival of Thaipusam, celebrated by Singapore's large Tamil community, where thousands of devotees walk a 4km pilgrimage from one temple to another.  Many carry pots of milk on their heads while others wear kavadi - elaborate structures on their shoulders - with their flesh pierced, spikes through their tongues and cheeks, limes attached to their backs or thighs with hooks...

It has been quite a spectacle.  And I was even given a free plate of rice and lentils.
