A New Zealander
It was either a bonfire or these Pseudopanax laetus fruits. Although it was a good bonfire I thought this picture might be slightly more interesting!
This lovely evergreen shrub, with its 5-digitate foliage, comes from New Zealand where it's commonly, but rather prosaically, known as 'Five finger'. OK, why choose an imaginative name when a descriptive one will do. The griselinia which seeds everywhere here with its chunky broad leaves is known in NZ as the 'Broadleaf'. So we know what they mean.
