Soil improvement

Soil in Malawi is depleted as a result of sustained use of artificial fertilizer and the exclusion of any organic matter.
Since we bought this farm we grow various green manures which fix or add nitrogen and as we are doing here we add the organic matter to improve the soil structure.
This patch had tephrosia growing on it which was slashed a week ago. Wezzie and Joyce are digging-in the dried matter to further improve the soil. I think the next crop is cabbage!
