A vile trade

Read an article last week about the abuse of albinos in Africa, in particular, Tanzania which both shocked and disgusted me. People,  believe that potions and lotions etc. made from the body parts of albinos are able to cure various illnesses, enhance performance or bring good luck.

Now it's easy to mock other people's beliefs, but that is unfair. We largely believe what we are taught to be the truth as we grow up and if our parents and elders tell us that drinking flat coke is good for an upset stomach, we believe it. These people believe that albino body parts are good for various ills; I get that, it's what has been drummed into them all their life. What I don't get is how one human being can consider their needs to be so important that maiming, or worse still, taking the life of another to cure their ills or improve their life is acceptable. That is taking selfishness to the extreme.

Anyone involved in this vile trade deserves what is coming to them in this life and if it exists, in the next.

P.S. No one was hurt in the taking of this photograph. A local anesthetic was administered before the limbs were removed (or perhaps I just did it in Photoshop)
