Downy woodpecker
On my morning walk today I suddenly heard a distinct sound: toc-toc-toc. A woodpecker obviously was on the forage in a nearby tree. I stopped and listened. After carefully scanning the nearest tree I finally found it, sitting near the crown of the tree. It was not easy to get a good photo of it, because of all branches. This is the best I managed to get. This is a male. They peck holes in the bark all over the tree, looking for insects. The females does not do that, they only pry under the bark.
