My topsy-turvy life

Well they look funny

While Laura was out yesterday I spent a while reading Funny Girl by Nick Hornby.
I wouldn't say it's his strongest novel but, being Hornby, it is eminently readable and I veritably ploughed through it once I got going.  Its strength is in dealing with the relationships between its main characters and the way this changes drives the story.  The setting though, the 1960s, was a little less convincing.  Maybe it's because I don't remember the 60s.  I just felt that the setting felt a little more incidental than integral to the story and it could have been set in any time with the smallest of tweaks.  But then, maybe that's the point.

Still recommended though.

Oh and the blonde is supposed to be the eponymous Funny Girl, whilst the bald fella is supposed to be Nick Hornby...hopefully he wouldn't be offended.
