The Old Carabineros Barracks.......Albir

This old, disused Carabineros Barracks is in the process of being transformed into a modern cultural information centre.
The Cuerpo de Carabineros, were the guardians of the Spanish coasts and frontiers. They were established in 1829 and were integrated into the Guardia Civil in 1940.

Part of the Plan is to teach construction and landscaping skills to local young people, and to give them paid employment, while they learn these new skills .....and then to create a new Cultural Centre for Albir....which will outline local history, and link this new Centre to that at the Lighthouse in the National Park, and to that at the Roman Archeological Open Air Museum in the village.

The building has been derelict for over 30 years, and now new life is being breathed into it......I hope to have more Blips, as the work progresses.
