Another Languedoc year...

Hales bales

Who would have thought it would be so difficult to find a couple of bales of straw? I couldn't find a single supplier in the area. However, a couple of bales turned up unannounced yesterday. It seems that my lovely nephew Josh had got them from his pal Yannick and left them in the wine cave for
me to find. So who you know is definitely more important than what you know.

Here's one in the car on its way to the vineyard vegetable garden ready to become mulch for my tomatoes and courgettes. Perfect for keeping the sun off - when it arrives eventually. For the moment the ground is sodden after repeated rainstorms, so a perfect time for mulching.

The blue flowers are borage, destined to be added to the comfrey 'soup' which is vouting away in a big bucket in the vineyard. I'm planning on using the stinking solution as a tonic for the Syrah which was looking a bit feeble at the end of last season.
