Big Buddha

Andy took one of his Amitriptyline tablets last night to help him sleep so wakes up groggy this morning.  After breakfast we head off to get some USD as we’re almost out and need to pay our hotel. All the banks are offering the same rate so its pretty easy.  

We then head to the train station to ask about a train to Bagan from here.  The usual story … first we’re told there is one, then we’re told there isn’t and we have to get the bus..  We take a local pick-up truck bus to the bus station to see what the score is and, after information overload, the one consistent seems to be a direct night bus so we book for tomorrow night.  We’re told it leaves at 5.30pm and arrives at 4am - not ideal but we can manage that.

After lunch at one of the many food places at the Bus Station we walk to the Shwesandaw Paya - a huge pagoda not far from the centre of town.  Its pretty amazing and this huge Buddha sits and overlooks it.  As you can see, it towers above the trees and is pretty impressive.
