Fighting back

I've had this orchid for around Seven years and I thought it was on its way out. However, just before Christmas a new shoot and two buds appeared - one of which as opened, as you can see. Not sure if it's a swan song but nice to see it flowering again.
A friend of mine didn't have a lot of success with house plants and asked her aunt, who always had a wonderful display, what her secret was.
"Well' when they start to look past there're best" said her aunt
"Yes" said my friend, neglecting gems of wisdom.
"I throw them away and buy new ones!"
