Big Omaha
After a good sleep we got breakfast locally and headed in the general direction of Leigh. We stopped off at the magnificent Omaha beach, nothing to do with Normandy landings (omaha means 'place of plenty' in Maori). We picked up some beautiful small mother of pearl shells which I think might come into use as buttons on a Lady M project. We stopped off at Big Omaha Wharf which has been lovingly restored to its original condition. It would have been the hub of travel and commerce in the area until roads and motor transport took over around 1930.
We carried on to Leigh with a couple more sightseeing stops at Whangateau and a road called Penguin which has a public reserve (park) overlooking a rocky beach. The wind has been whipping the sea up over the last 24 hours, giving it a dramatic look.
We arrived at Leigh and the Sawmill Cafe where we had arranged to stay. First job was a pint of their own, brewed on the premises, beer and some lunch before we booked in. No wifi there, so this is a back blip.
Catch you later
