The Sanatorium

Derelict Thursday challenge

Just a  few (late) notes. 
The sanatoriums were erected in the 20's because of the good clima conditions and air quality... Later with the progress of the medicine and the eradication of the tuberculosis came the decline, and started to close in the 70's. There was 18 sanatoriums.. And in 1986 the last one closed the doors. One is now a 4**** hotel, 3 or 4 are caring homes for the elders, another is now a small convent, and a few others were converted into residential flats, but many were completed abandoned, specially the ones owned by the government... 

This particular one in the photo was exclusively for children... 

Of course after 30 years of abandon, they are severely vandalized, and stripped of all the features... 

We are planning another visit because we missed the surgical building..
