Cattle truck

I saw this old railway wagon in a field. You could have picked up one of these for a song a while back. This one must have been used for feeding or sheltering livestock. Then I thought of others used for purposes beyond their original design and I shuddered.

I visited many of the camps during the 1990s, when researching a chapter for my first book. I wanted to know why the Nazis had used that sign, Arbeit Macht Frei, over the gates of their concentration camps. Some thoughts on that here.
