Boys of a certain age

will remember the comic The Eagle. This ramshackle shed was where the comic was developed in the early 1950s.
On a personal level, I along with many readers, answered a feature which offered to link readers as pen friends. I was paired with a pen friend in Southwick, Sussex.  After writing to each other for some time I decided at the age of 14, to cycle there to meet up. Three days riding there, half a day in Southwick, then on to Southampton, a further three days ride back to Merseyside, staying in Youth Hostels each night. All thanks to reading a comic. How times have changed for youngsters. Doing that journey, alone at 14 would be quite different now.
