Itchy Scratchy

For a time when I was at high school - everyone was wearing Shetland Wool V-neck jumpers as part of their uniform.  I don't know why - because they weren't soft and fluffy like a nice 100% Acrylic one...they were very itchy and scratchy.

The elbows wore out and we sewed 'leather' patches on them.  Everyone did this.  When you rolled up your sleep the big leather patch at the elbow bunched up uncomfortably.

Invariably when they were washed in the machine they shrank ! So we ended up with itchy brown V-necks with patchy elbows and they waistband half way up your tum!

I recently sent away to Shetland for some wool to knit hat and gloves.  It was only when the wool arrived it reminded me of those itchy school jumpers.

Sheep in Shetland must be very uncomfy !
