Dried Sausage...
...a.k.a. 'Nottz by Night'. Two gigs, two nights running - and both sell-outs, too! Never let it be said that I don't have my finger firmly on the pulse of popular culture! Apart from a general rammedness, though, they were fairly contrasting affairs - last night had an orderly queue, a polite crowd of indie-kids and some fine C86-inflected pop music from Alvvays, at the Bodega (much better live than on last years debut album, too, and I liked that well enough), tonight at the Rescue Rooms for Sleaford Mods' latest "victorious home-coming gig", it was all beered-up old skins and slightly lairy mod-girls and the usual sweaty, foul-mouthed ranting and rudimentary beats up on the stage. The Mods were in fine form - Jason W. using the slightly larger to stage to execute some vaguely vaudevillian strutting moves and even more of that weird thing he does where he flicks the sweat off his head whilst Fearny seemed, if anything, to grin even wider than ever, especially at the sea of hands that greeted him getting his phone out for a crowd photo. Otherwise it was too crowded, there was too much barging and the view of the stage from where I was was intermittent at best - I think I'm getting too old for these kind of punk rock goings on. I did get to see a couple of drunks fall down the steps by the merch table though, so that was a bit of bonus entertainment...
