Tulips

The tulips make me want to paint
Something about the way they drop
Their petals on the tabletop
And do not wilt so much as faint

These opening lines of 'Tulips' by A.E.Stallings flags up the call to action that tulips evoke. Not for me the paintbrush, but the camera, although I added a touch of the 'dry brush' filter to give a painterly look. Not a petal has dropped since they arrived on Sunday but one day soon I'll walk into the room and they'll have 'fainted'. What a great metaphor!

They are lit by sunlight streaming through a window five feet away, striking some of blooms and leaves direct, with reflected light bouncing off the walls and ceiling filling in the shadow side.
