And The Earth Did Dance
Bomm bomm ..... shhhhhh .....Can you hear it?......bomm bomm.......it sounds like a heart beat off in the distance......bomm bomm.......like it’s travelling through the ground.....bomm bomm
Bom bom......there it is again......bom bom......its growing louder......bom bom.....it’s calling us
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom .....it’s found us!
The earth vibrates beneath my feet. I look up: It’s like a scene from a science fiction movie as lasers illuminate the sky and project onto the hills around us. From all corners they pour in towards the stage – the weird & the wonderful, the lost & the found, those searching for dancehall redemption and those who just need to move in time with the earth.
Main stage: One of four that captivates and compels. Sand & dirt, sails & sky lit by passion. Home to a tribal celebration. We dance a declaration that its Rainbow owners will not conform so long as there is music to guide our bodies in a twisting, writhing hypnotic mass. For 24 hours this stage breathes as one. It inhales and exhales. The rain falls, & wild winds blow & we dance in homage to the music gods who guide the weary and the tired to an invigorating dance. We are alive & exposed. Welcomed shelter is found in the company of others. We move as one.
A return to camp signifies a triumphant victory of the soul.
....Only hours ago the ground pulsated, music emanating from the earth below. The feet of its followers willingly answered its call. We danced to exhaustion & then we danced some more & the world was reduced to that one pulsating stage.
Main Stage: Now peaceful, now calm, now resting till next year....
This blip is of the sails over main stage at Rainbow Serpent. The stage kicks off with an indigenous ceremony before 24 hours of continual music. It is the pinnacle of the festival & the next day – well everything just feels different. We return to sunset, market & playground stages, but the smiles are different & the tone is more calm – we have all forged a bond just by being there...we all danced on the same ground, we all saw the same things, we left exhausted and refreshed. We have survived the festival at its strongest & lived to tell the tale.
I do not ever want to live in a world without music.
