I wonder what became of these boys

My son is a club swimmer and won a trophy last week. The trophy has fascinated me as the earliest winner was W. Heaton in 1931. I wonder what became of him. If he was the same ahead my son he might have had to go to war in1939, did he come home again, did he have a family, is he a much loved father and grandad?
I hope he was happy and enjoyed swimming at least for a while after winning the trophy.
Will it still be being competed for in another 80 odd years time?
