Kardomah...

In what is now the Albert Square Chop House on one of the corners of Albert Square there used to be the Kardomah Tea Rooms. It was a very grand affair in the middle of the last century. Well to do Manchester ladies would gather there after some retail therapy in Kendal's or on King Street for some afternoon tea. While the chatted and enjoyed their tea they were serenaded by a string quartet. It's all long gone but one of the signs is still on the building on a side door as a reminder of those times.
