Science Fair

Every 4 years Lanna does a science fair. We set them the work back in October and in the months since have been helping them develop experiments and exhibits. As with any major event it was very difficult to tell how it was all going to come together in the end, especially with some pupils still working on it during the morning of the fair!
In the end it was brilliant. Every pupil from years 7-10 produced something and most of them were great. My highlights were 'does social media effect emotional wellbeing?' 'does gum help you concentrate? ' and superglue made from cheese. The inevitable rockets, volcanoes and cabbage gun were also great fun. We had pupils with peroxide, dry ice, oobleck, various body parts, naked flames and a tent with strobe lights showing water moving backwards to name but a few. The picture is a project about crystal growing, the pupil involved was very dedicated and determined to be able to explain everything in detail.
To me it embodied what science teaching should be: a community of teachers, pupils and parents together discussing things they find interesting.
