Skacel's Swansong
Was at Hampden for the Scottish Cup Final yesterday, the all Edinburgh derby between Hearts and Hibs. Was working but did manage to take the camera and got some shots that I am pleased with, including this one. Got their early and took a few nice ones of fans and football personalities arriving at the national stadium.
The pre-match atmosphere was great, both sets of fans made it a colorful and noisy occasion. As a neutral it was great to watch but I don't think I could've relaxed and enjoyed it if I supported either side.
Despite Hearts dominating the first half, a late goal just before half time kept Hibs in it and tie was still alive. Controversial penalty call and sending off two minutes into 2nd half ended it as a contest and became a procession with Hearts eventually winning 5-1. Hibs can have no complaints though about the outcome though, they were lucky to still be in it at half time.
This is Rudi Skacel celebrating with the trophy on the steps at Hampden. He took it a bit further than the rest and got up on the ledge where the trophy sits. This is likely to be his final match for Hearts (this is his second spell at the club) and if so, he has signed off in style...not sure about that wig though!
