8 Gorgie Road, Former Bank
This two storey building was designed by architect Thomas Purves Marwick and constructed in 1899. Ground floor was the banking hall, above was the manager's flat and a basement below. Now a block of flats is to the right, until the 1990s a church stood here which blended in better with the surrounding area. From what I can tell the bank at some point moved into the lower floors of the adjoining tenement to the left, then closed circa 2005. Both ex bank premises are now flats.Any factual inaccuracies in the write-up are entirely my own.
