The Three Sisters
Hidden in the middle of Largs are these three pillars that were used in 1808 by Sir Thomas Brisbane (who gave his name to Brisbane in Australia and mapped the southern sky when he was there) as sighting posts to make sure his observatory further up the glen could be lined up to the North Pole even when the North Star was not visible. It is amazing what he could do with relatively crude instruments.
The golf umbrella gives some sense of scale.
