Aperture on Life

Butterflies

Every year RHS Wisley fill their hot house with tropical butterflies.  It's a wonderful event which is a perfect break from the monotony of winter.

Last year it was one of my photography group's most popular events and this year, once again it was well subscribed.  This morning was frosty but, inside the glasshouse, twenty four of us stripped from our coats and jostled with other members of the public to see and photograph the beauty of the butterfly's tropical colours.  Why I chose this photo, I don't know... perhaps because it's been a while since I've posted a true macro shot.

Sunday's, I know, can be very busy so, I booked enough timed entry tickets to cover us all, even though we met early. I was a glad I had as at 9.30am there were queues at the main entry gate.  Meanwhile, in the hot house, I had the impression that they'd let a few too many people in during the session and was happy to get out into the fresh air, having been in for just half an hour.

I may go back in the next few days, but not during the weekend.  It was spectacular but, I have more than a slight problem with crowds.
