Byker
Today we went to The Biscuit Factory, which is a previous Victorian warehouse which was later a biscuit factory (hence the name) and now an art gallery. We went to the vintage fair in its function room for a rummage and I bought a pair of 50s style sunglasses. The rest of the fair wasn't that exciting, too much 80s clothing (including fluorescent shell suits). In my opinion 80s stuff shouldn't be at a vintage fair as it was hideous enough the first time! After that we had a look at the art inside the main part of the biscuit factory and visited the lovely cafe inside for coffee and a slice of victoria sponge. From the cafe is a fantastic view across from Shieldfield to Byker. It was a clear, sunny (but chilly) day so I couldn't resist taking a quick snap of the view out of the cafe window. In the distance on the right, the blue roofed building is the Byker wall. This is a wall with flats built within. It was built in 1970 and is well known architecturally and is grade II listed.
Afterwards, we went to the Centre for Life in the city centre to see the National wildlife photographer of the year exhibition. There were some fantastic photographs and I would really recommend it! Its £10 each (but if you take your Waterstones points card, which is free to register for or an English Heritage card then tickets are 2-for-1 but they don't advertise this at the museum so I am sure not many other people have taken up this offer). We just had cheese raclette for dinner and my friend has said goodbye. Must get on with some work now but full of food and would prefer a nap :)
