Getting Foxy by the Lake

Foxlake for the last cross race of the season. Might as well just say what I said on the SCX FB Page....

Thoughts on racing and spectating (you might want to grab a cup of tea, I certainly have)...
Racing
What a cracking course. Changed from the 2013 series/champs course (the last time I was here), and had a bit of everything. Now I like the series races, but when you're in the last few spots they 'can' get a little disheartening (only a little mind) but these A & B races for the last few in January I think work nicely. Made me feel as if I was in a genuine race. Yeah, I was still towards the tail end, but always a gap in front to try and close, and always someone about 40 yards back I was trying to hold off (successfully in the end, despite shipping the chain on the penultimate lap). Confirmed that while I am getting better, I still don't really have the engine - whereas on the couple of fun descents it was 'brakes aff' and away you go, and perhaps Lochore was good training because through the mud I was making surprising time on those around me. Nailed the remount after the run up as well I think (little personal fist pumps each lap). Organisation was just superb (hats off) and all seemed to flow perfectly. Brilliant day of cross.
Spectating
Y'know how at every party there's a guy in the corner just slowly drinking a bottle by himself? Well he's either a serial killer scoping the room, or me. I'm not a naturally 'sociable' chap (there'll be a psychological phrase that conveys more than 'unsociable sod'); it's one of the reasons I don't hang around that much after races (as well as generally being with my father in law who loves watching the racing, but once it's finished is dead keen to get home) - but today I had something of an epiphany on the spectating front. You see, during the race it was great to hear my name shouted 3 or 4 times (apologies for not knowing who was doing the shouting save one from the ever-reliable Mr Mccomisky on the first lap, I was too knackered to be looking around), and I just thought 'damn it, I'm not going to hide permanently behind the camera'. So there were a few 'hups', a smattering of 'dig ins', a number of 'mon the Belgians/Clarion/Deesides, and at least one 'Red is Faster'. Made me feel better (not sure if it helped any riders).
Anyway, random thought download. Loved the day, the riding, the Davie Lines masterclass.
