A Peep Thru the Pinhole

The Windings

Part of the winding mechanism of the erstwhile Telford (Shropshire) coal-mining industry. This area of England is said to be the birthplace of the industrial revolution, and encompasses the towns of Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale. (See quote, below.)

("Telford now includes Ironbridge Gorge, a scenic tourist destination and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town advertises itself as "The Birthplace of Industry", due to its proximity to Coalbrookdale and other places in the Ironbridge Gorge area, which are internationally recognised as being important to the Industrial Revolution, and being to a large extent constructed on the Shropshire Coalfield. The River Severn flows along its southernmost boundary.)" [Wikipedia.]

The landscape around the former coal-mining sites has been re-modelled to eliminate all trace of mining activity - other than this winding structure, kept for preservation purposes. It stands on the premises of what is now Telford Naturist Club, and this photo was taken with the kind permission of their club Chairman.
