The Esplanade Hotel

My trip to Zagreb is at the invitation of a group who asked me to speak about the use of educational technology to provide opportunities for rural and island areas in order to attract and retain young people to these areas. As this is an issue that is central to my work with the UHI, I was happy to comply. On day two I finally managed to get outside with some decent light (it's been overcast and raining so far). I made a quick walk around the "Lower Town" (ie the more modern part rather than the Medieval centre) and took a lot of photos. This is the famous Esplanade Hotel, built just cross the street from the Central Railway Station to accommodate passengers from the old Orient Express. It has an interesting history (google it) and I promised myself a glass of wine in its luxurious bar, but I miss-judged the distances and arrived there about 10.30 - a bit early for a liquid lunch. Ah well, next time! (I will put my photos up on Picasa when I get some time...)
