Wimborne Minster font
The 12th century octagonal font stands on eight Purbeck marble shafts. This material was quarried in the near by Purbeck Hills . It was very popular at this time for big pillars in church buildings - like Westminster abbey .
Originally decorated with semi precious stones the font was stripped by the Puritans.
