Nash Point Lighthouse on a miserable day.

We went to our favourite pub at Marcross for lunch and then walked across to Nash Point lighthouse. It was rather dull and quite chilly but we enjoyed the walk. Nash point lighthouse was built in only 11 months and completed in1832. It was constructed from Blue Lias stone hauled up from the beach and worked on by skilled stonemasons The building of this lighthouse was the direct result of a major shipping disaster in 1831. The actual light is 56 metres above sea level and can be seen at a distance of 21 nautical miles. In 1998 it was converted to automatic operation and is now controlled from Trinity House's centre at Harwich.
