Hectors Dolphins

The Hectors dolphins are the worlds smallest dolphins, they are quite rare - about 2,000 of them left around NZ. They breed every 3 years and live to be about 20. When the mother gives birth the calf comes out in a horse shoe shape and is helped up to the top for its first breath by a 'midwife' dolphin who stays with the mother and calf for about the first 3 months.

I saw these dolphins today. I also saw NZ fur seals - some babies that were only a couple of weeks old - about 18" long and very wriggly. Also the worlds smallest penguins - the blue penguin. After l got back stopped at the wharf and bought a fish sandwich $12 - freshly grilled whilst you wait - delicimo!!!

Great day, am now going to sit on the balcony and sip a lovely cold Sav B before going out for supper.
