Ready to be evacuated.
This is me and my class teacher, Mr D, all dressed up ready for our evacuation day to Stibbington. Wow, we have had a fantastic day! Our coach dropped us off at Nene Valley Railway Station then we walked across the frozen fields to Stibbington. The countryside was so beautiful. The cottages that the children 'would be staying' in were pointed out en route, with a little description of their guardian families. The kids really bought into this and asked questions all day about their new families.
We spent the morning in the 1940's classroom, practising spellings and arithmetic. Followed by an air raid which meant we all went into the shelter. The kids loved lunch. A choice of jam, cheese or spam sandwiches and cake. Some fresh air followed with some time outdoors playing with the games. Identity cards and quizzes took up the afternoon. The two instructors couldn't praise our kids enough. All 42 kids were a credit to our school and themselves. Felt quite proud of them.
Great way to end the week and start the weekend! Happy weekend Blippers!! xxxx
