He couldn't really remember Mel's face any more. Not after all these years. He could look at the old photos and there they both were - in the Battalion football team or with the two girls in Cyprus - he just couldn't call his features to mind anymore.
But, sometimes, he would catch, in the corner of his eye, a familiar way of walking or presence. And, despite everything, he would turn, only to meet the uncaring glance of a stranger.
