Winkle-Picker
Daragh was over this morning (Lola snapped at him when he raised a too-cautious gloved hand to pet her). He did the measuring with an interesting little gadget that shot a presumably infrared beam and bleeped its reading. He is very enthusiastic; 'gorgeous' I think he said. Fiachra arrived soon afterwards, followed by Dave. So I hadn't much time to take any photos before picking up the wean. It was a cloudless, barking-blue day, so I decided to take a quick gander down on the Coal Harbour, as I knew the strong sun would print interesting shadows on those lovely, honey-grey granite blocks.
The usual commotion of seabirds, mainly huge Herring Gulls, as there were boats in. I noticed the birds picking up shellfish and dropping them to break the shells, as this one was doing, though I didn't know I'd caught his lunch midair till I looked in the rear display window.
The wean was in good spirits (mum arriving home from London round about now). We drove to Dún Laoghaire to pick up his Star Wars Factfile comic, then to our Secret Park to give Lola her gallop, and there we were when his mum called, looking for us.
