Gesundbrunnen bei HofGeismar

The little castle Schönburg

On this grey Thursday morning we drove to the South. To the city of Hofgeismar, the administrative, economic and cultural centre of Hessen’s northern region. We had to fulfill necessary administrative formalities following our immigration. These steps make you feel how our transition is getting real. As this is the first time we move into an expat status, it sometimes feels a bit scary. Worrying about some major obstacle you should have been aware off before taking the leap. But as I have remarked before: the dice is thrown (alea iacta est) and we just have to make the best of this adventure. Every day anew.

Around midday we were free to look around. Visit an old church and breathe in the peace there. Reminding words of gratitude. Then W. proposed to visit the estate park of Gesundbrunnen. This name translates to Health Source. Referring to the history of discovery of healing waters near a Military Hospital in the 17th century. I descended into the old fountain temple and found the source frozen and rosted. Still I moisted a finger to be aware of the contact.

Gesundbrunnen is a centre for religious education and meeting for the Evangelical Church. Classical buildings spread over the estate. A small parish church on top of a hill. And surrounded by a beautiful, now deserted park. The Swann Lake frozen and without swanns.
The main country mansion “Schönburg” silently looking out over the  lake.  A place to return to. As our deepest motive to remove to Northern Hessen is to find and cultivate our daily “Gesundbrunnen”. Our source of living a healthy life in and around our beautiful house. Our modest “Schönburg” under the Solling Oaktree. Re-moving as a spiritual adventure.
